Changing Season
2009 Start   Recipe for Playdough

Our playgroup provides an informal environment for children and parents or carers to
play, learn and socialise.

The first half of our two hour session is typically spent on a variety of indoor activities. An assortment of toys for all ages are placed out around the room for children to play with including a craft activity where the children cut, paste, draw, glue and get to use their creativity skills.

Morning tea (supplied by parents/caregivers) comes next, then outside play. The playground has a slide, fort and shaded sandpit with plenty of outdoor toys.

Playgroup is then finished with story time,
where a book is read to all the children.

When? Every Monday during school terms,
from 9 am to 11 am.

Where? Glenrowan Multi-Purpose Centre,
Old Hume Highway

Who? Babies and children accompanied by a parent
or other caregiver.

Phone no. at playgroup: 5766 2475 -
for other contact details, see below.

  Changing Season

Even though the mornings are beginning to get quite fresh,
the lovely sun-filled days are still allowing the children to explore and play outdoors at Tuesday Playgroup.

Autumn Leaves were collected from the big tree (liquid amber) in the playground. The children enjoyed crinkling and crackling the leaves in their hands.
Some children pasted the leaves onto paper to create autumn leave collages.

Inside the children played dress ups and enjoyed the ‘home corner’ where they continue their pretend play.
It is great to watch them interact and role play with each other.

The parents and other care givers have been treated to many home made goodies lately - a yummy made by Lorinda was particularly popular.

Visit the Glenrowan Gazette Recipes page
and find the easy-to-do recipe for Lorinda's Slice.
Enjoy!

  Magnificent 2009 Start

What a magnificent start to the 2009 year at Glenrowan Playgroup!
And a big welcome to all the new families who have began attending playgroup for the first time. I am sure your children will enjoy their time at Playgroup and you will make some terrific friends!
Some of the activities the children have been participating in included making a patchwork person out of coloured paper, glue and textas as well as ‘finger painting’ with coloured shaving cream which covered one of the tables!
Because of the warmer weather, outside play has still been a lot of fun, especially days when the children get to take part in water play. On one of the warmer days this month the children used buckets of water and paint brushes to ‘paint’ the concrete.

The first newsletter of the year has been issued to parents/care givers and details of parent participation and room set up was included.
The newsletter also outlined the Playgroup Victoria insurance/membership fee structure, which for 2009 is $25 annually per family (or $15 for families with concession cards).
The weekly attendance fee for Glenrowan Playgroup remains unchanged at $3 per family though we do offer an alternative ‘pay-in-advance’ fee of $20 per family, per term, if preferred.

PLAYDOUGH

playdough

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 4 tablespoons of 'cream of tartar'
  • 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 2 cups of boiling hot water
  • food colouring

WHAT TO DO

Just pop it all in a mixing bowl and mix!

It looks as though it is not going to mix well at first, but hang in there! Then throw it onto the bench to knead and it will come together really nicely.

You can mix different things into the dough, such as glitter or sand. Just be careful you don't add things like rice as it tends to go mouldy.
